A total of 135 teachers teaching at Kingsley International School attended an informative training session entitled Effective Classroom Management. The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Busky Baskaran, a certified trainer in Pedagogy.

At Kingsley, we give significance to professional development for our teachers. Today’s modern society demands high quality teaching and learning from teachers. Teachers have to possess a great deal of knowledge and skills with regard to both teaching and assessment practices in order to meet those demands and standards of quality education.

Classroom management is consistently identified as a major concern for teachers. Yet, it is an absolutely essential component of effective teaching. This training stint is interactive and educational which helps teachers learn how to effectively manage a classroom. This session is designed for teachers at all levels including early year education, primary, secondary and pre-university studies.

Effective classroom management is a training programme with a collection of gentle but powerful strategies designed to create an environment that is most conducive to learning and enjoying school.  It’s about trust, influence, relationships, leadership and students behaving and giving their best because they want to, not because they are forced to.  Effective classroom management is where the desires and fulfilment of both students and teachers meet.

The objectives of this training is to help enrich the classroom environment, to refine teaching methods, to minimize class divisions and to implement positive classroom behaviour and discipline.

The following topics were covered in the training sessions:

  1. Classroom Management – Theories of Congruent Communication by Haim Ginott
  2. Students and Parents Expectations from Teachers
  3. Effective Online Teaching – Approaches & Practices
  4. Dreikur’s Model of Social Discipline in Classrooms
  5. How to Manage Complaints

Teacher learning is a continuous process that promote teachers’ teaching skills, master new knowledge, develop new proficiency, which in turn, help improve students’ learning.

Teachers with high quality teaching tend to find out more about their own craft, pushing out the boundaries of their learning and teaching, looking for the new topics and creative ways to teach. However, in order to achieve their maximum potential, ongoing professional development must be implemented in their schedules.  The best professional development is ongoing, collaborative, and connected to and derived from working with students and understanding their culture.
