Drawing from years of experience, we recognise that a strong command of the medium of instruction is essential for effective learning. To support this, we have cultivated a language-rich environment that promotes literacy across listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The curriculum is structured into two distinct learning stages: Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
Introduces core literacy and numeracy through the Cambridge IPC themes, reinforced with phonics-led English lessons and hands-on maths activities. Emphasis on building confidence, curiosity and foundational social skills in small, supportive classes.
Deepens subject knowledge with IPC units in humanities and science, balanced by weekly arts, sports and STEAM enrichment. Focused on developing independence, critical thinking and collaborative learning ahead of secondary school.
In the first stage, students develop key learning skills through hands-on, experiential activities. At MLKIS, our community works closely to support each child’s growth and potential. Students are given many opportunities to learn in a supportive and engaging environment. They explore a wide range of subjects through a fun, cross-curricular approach—including English Literacy, Numeracy, Science, PSHE, Music, Art, Physical Education, and Modern Foreign Languages (MFL). This helps build a strong foundation and confidence as they prepare for Key Stage 2.
Communication is an important part of a child’s development. That’s why we also introduce Malay and Mandarin, helping students learn two widely spoken languages in Malaysia and understand the local culture.
Key Stage 2 covers a wide range of subjects, including English Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Humanities (History and Geography), ICT, and PSHE, laying the foundation for Key Stage 3. English Literacy and Mathematics are taught daily.
English lessons focus on developing the four key skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. In Mathematics, students strengthen their mental, practical, and problem-solving skills.
Creative and physical development continues through Music, Art & Design, and Physical Education. Students also continue learning Malay and Mandarin, with greater focus on all four language skills. Lessons are designed to be fun, engaging, and collaborative, guided by class teachers and subject specialists.
