Key Stage 1
In the first stage, students are introduced to key learning skills developed through a hands-on and experiential approach. The community at MLKIS work hand-in-hand to nurture and guide each student to grow into their full potential in their own capacity. They are provided with multiple opportunities to learn in an environment conducive to learning.
MLKIS exposes the students to a broad range of subjects that equips them with skills and knowledge in a vigorous and fun-filled cross-curricular approach such as English Literacy, Numeracy, Science, PSHE, Music, Art, Physical Education and Modern Foreign Language (MFL). This furnishes students with the confidence and strong foundation needed to move confidently to the next level (Key Stage 2).
Speech and communication is essential for the holistic development of students. Thus, Malay and Mandarin are introduced to help each child learn two of the widely used languages in the country, giving them insights into the local culture as well as the ability to converse in the language.
Key Stage 2
Key Stage 2 encompasses a broad range of subjects such as English Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Humanities which includes History & Geography, ICT and PSHE. These subjects form the foundation needed at Key Stage 3. English Literacy and Mathematics are taught daily.
A strong focus on the four skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing is reflected in the teaching of English Literacy and mental, practical and application is the focus of Mathematics at this level. Music, Art & Design and Physical Education continues to build on the creative and physical aspect of learning. MFL (Modern Foreign Language) is continued with Malay and Mandarin with a stronger emphasis on listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. These subjects are delivered in an enjoyable, engaging and group oriented learning where the class teachers and the specialists facilitate the learning.
